A face lift mainly addresses skin laxity in the cheek and neck. It will reposition, refine, and support deep tissues like the midfacial fat pad and the jowl as well as tighten the skin. |

Aging problems accompanying the sagging and relaxation that comes with passing time often involve the skin itself and are usually caused by sun damage. Wrinkles and uneven pigmentation can be seen anywhere but are most common around the eyes, mouth/lip and cheek areas. UV exposure causes breakdown of the collagen and elastin in the dermis, which leads to weakening and wrinkling of areas that are moved by muscles of facial expression. Both of these problems can be dramatically improved by resurfacing. |

When facial imbalance is related to a “weak” chin, one solution is to add a small implant that is placed to fit the point of the jaw. Different shapes and sizes are available so the resulting appearance is very natural. The implant is stable as it is placed in a pocket made under the muscle. Most people become so used to the feel and look that they often say they forget the implant is even there. |

The most common problem related to ears is that they are too prominent or stick out from the side of the head. Treatment involves reshaping/repositioning this tissue so there is symmetry of the two sides as well as a more normal relationship of the ear to the face and side of the head. The ear should roughly parallel the plane of the cheek. Too close to the head is no better than too far out! |

As the “window to our soul” your eyes often give other people an impression of who you are without a word being spoken. If there is sagging skin or fat bulges that make you look tired or unhappy, your first impression may not be a good one. Blepharoplasty (eyelid) surgery can correct both of these problems. By removing excess skin and fat we give you a more rested and pleasant appearance. Incisions are hidden in the natural curves of the eyes, under the eyelashes or even made “internally” in some instances where excess skin is not an issue. Particularly in men, it is important not to “overdo”. |

In some cases the “heaviness” of the upper lids is not caused by too much skin but by relaxation of the forehead tissue. When this is the case, treatment to reposition the forehead and brow upward can open the eyes, remove what appeared to be excess upper lid skin, and make a person look more approachable and happy. This is usually done through 3 incisions hidden in the hair so the final result is both natural and undetectable. It is important not to overdo the upward tissue shift and leave the patient looking surprised. The frown muscles are usually partially removed (50 to 60%) so a person can still have a normal ability to frown. However, it will always be weaker. This helps minimize the frown lines in the future even if a person does not want to use Botox. |

Although the perfect lip implant may not yet exist, enhancement of the lips often involves adding volume that one loses in the aging process. This can be done with a soft implant or by grafting your own fat or other tissue. Temporary volume can be added with injectable fillers like Restylane. Sometimes surgical excision of tissue near the lip line or under the nose can be combined with augmentation to further expose the lips. |

Sagging skin, muscle banding and local fat accumulation can all be involved in making your neck look “old.” Each of these problems must be addressed in order to make the neck contour what it once was. This is usually done using incisions behind the ears and a small one under the chin. Muscles are often tied to help create a “sling effect” for better support. A suspension suture is often used to give more long-lasting support to the neck. |

Nasal surgery (rhinoplasty) can be done to help either appearance or breathing function. This is usually done with incisions hidden inside the nose. The external shape can be changed or corrected by altering the bone, cartilage, and soft tissue underneath the skin allowing for a more ideal relationship among the parts. The end result should not have an “operated” look and, in fact, the best work is usually not detected. Airway function is always important. If you have a deviated septum (the structure that divides the nose into two passages) that is causing breathing difficulties, this should be treated at the same time. |
