In some cases the “heaviness” of the upper lids is not caused by too much skin but by relaxation of the forehead tissue. When this is the case, treatment to reposition the forehead and brow upward can open the eyes, remove what appeared to be excess upper lid skin, and make a person look more approachable and happy. This is usually done through 3 incisions hidden in the hair so the final result is both natural and undetectable. It is important not to overdo the upward tissue shift and leave the patient looking surprised. The frown muscles are usually partially removed (50 to 60%) so a person can still have a normal ability to frown. However, it will always be weaker. This helps minimize the frown lines in the future even if a person does not want to use Botox.
