Santa Barbara Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Terry J. Perkins voted Best Cosmetic Surgeon

Dr. Terry J. Perkins, who was raised in Santa Barbara, is honored to have this title bestowed on him by his hometown clients.

Dr. Terry J. Perkins, Santa Barbara-based cosmetic surgeon, who has been serving Santa Barbara and Ventura counties for over thirty years, has been voted Best Cosmetic Surgeon in the Santa Barbara News Press Readers Choice Awards 2009.

“To be recognized as the Best Cosmetic Surgeon by my patients, friends, and peers is a great honor, especially in Santa Barbara, where many other talented plastic and cosmetic surgeons practice,” commented Dr. Perkins from his Cosmetic Surgery practice in Santa Barbara.

Dr. Perkins began practicing in 1978 and opened the Cosmetic Surgery Center Medical Group in 1983 specifically to give his patients access to the safest and most advanced technology and surgical techniques available anywhere. At the Cosmetic Surgery Center he specializes in facial cosmetic surgery, skin rejuvenation, and body contouring. What makes Dr. Perkins standout is that he is at the forefront of aesthetic technology – he was one of 16 doctors in the United States selected to conduct a study leading to the FDA approval of Botox – and he continues to research and acquire new, safe and effective devices and treatments to benefit his patients. In 2005 he founded Evolutions Medical Spa in Santa Barbara where clients can receive medically supervised non-invasive treatments that are safely administered in a pampered atmosphere.

Along with being an excellent technical doctor, Dr. Perkins always makes it a point to put his patients first. After sharing his comments about the award, Dr. Perkins demonstrated this by saying “I would like to thank all of my patients over the past three decades who have supported me, for without them I wouldn’t be able to make a living doing something that I truly love.” Clearly Santa Barbara residents have made a great choice for “Best Cosmetic Surgeon.”

Santa Barbara Cosmetic Surgery Center Introduces Dysport – an Alternative to Botox – Available Now!

Dr. Perkins is excited to introdue Dysport – a real alternative to Botox®! Dysport is another effective treatment to smoothing lines between your brows and reducting wrinkles in your forehead and around the eyes. Dysport is a better value per unit than Botox – it works faster and is a smaller molecule so 20 units of Botox equals 50 units of Dysport.

Here are some other similarities and differences between Dysport and Botox®:

    • Both Dysport and Botox are forms of Botulinum Toxin Type A.

    • Both products have been used in Europe for almost 20 years to treat certain types of muscle disorders.

    • Botox received FDA approval for cosmetic use in the U.S. in 2002. Dysport recently received FDA approval.

    • Both products are safe and effective in the treatment of wrinkles on the face (“frown lines”).

  • Dysport works faster (1-3 days vs. 4-7 days for Botox) and has FDA approval for a four month duraction (vs. 3-4 months for Botox).

Santa Barbara Plastic Surgeon on How a Simple Neck Lift Will Say Goodbye to Your Double Chin

One popular cosmetic surgery procedure that Dr. Terry Perkins performs in his Santa Barbara Cosmetic Surgery Center practice is minimally invasive, with long lasting effects and often can dramatically change a person’s face. It happens to be a neck lift.

The neck lift is a procedure that can help correct sagging skin and fat accumulation in the neck area – often referred to as a “double chin”. The neck lift is usually done using incisions behind the ears and a small one under the chin. Muscles are often tied to help create a “sling effect” for better support. A suspension suture is often used to give more long-lasting support to the neck. A neck lift has minimal downtown and satisfying results.
A neck lift not only redefines the chin area, it often gives a whole new look to a person’s face. Now that the excess skin is removed, their face no longer appears bottom heavy and Dr. Perkins reports that his patients who have undergone a neck lift often hear from people that they look like they have lost weight!
Many people believe that a neck lift may be something they will have to do “later” in life. Not at all true – Dr. Perkins sees patients, women and men, young and old for this procedure. People who have a “double chin” are not necessarily older and overweight. Many younger people have acquired it simply from genetics. The good news is that you can have a neck lift at any age.

Ask Santa Barbara Plastic Surgeon Dr. Perkins – Tried & True vs. New Cosmetic Procedures

Do you have questions about a cosmetic procedure? Dr. Terry J. Perkins of Cosmetic Surgery Center in Santa Barbara is happy to address any of your questions or concerns. Send us an email and we’ll be sure to feature your question soon!

Q. Dr. Perkins, I am always hearing about “new” procedures or things to re-shape a women’s body and/or remove cellulite such as specific exercises, fat-burning pills, special massages etc., How much credence do you give these and what are your recommendations to re-shape and, specifically, tighten my body after having children?
A. As a cosmetic surgeon who has been in the practice for more than 30 years, in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, I have seen lots of these fads come and go. I have also seen lots of women who are interested in re-claiming the body they had before having children. While I believe cosmetic surgery can achieve great results, I don’t want people to think that it is the only solution. I encourage women who are trying to shed extra weight after having a child to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle – make good food choices and try to exercise (always hard to do with a new baby, but walking with a stroller can be a very effective workout!). Sometimes, however, doing all of that will not tighten the belly or shrink the thighs sufficiently and that is when I can help out. Bulges is such areas can be treated with liposuction and often a mini tummy tuck can complete the procedure. The excision is done at the upper edge of the pubic hair so as to leave a minimal scar that is easily hidden with a bathing suit bottom.

I treat every patient on a case-by-case basis. If you would like a consultation in-person with me, please call our Cosmetic Surgery Center Santa Barbara office to set up an appointment at 805-563-0000.

Santa Barbara Plastic Surgeon Sees Clients Continuing to Invest in Plastic Surgery in Tough Economy

In a slow economy, people are cutting back on expenditures such as mid-morning lattes, personal trainers or housekeepers. Interestingly enough, however, plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery may not be getting hit as hard as other businesses.

“People live to a ripe old age these days and want to look as young as they feel,” said Dr. Terry J. Perkins, a Santa Barbara, CA cosmetic surgeon and owner of Cosmetic Surgery Center Medical Group based in Santa Barbara, California. “In addition, the slim job market encourages people of retirement age (who cannot afford to retire) to compete with younger professionals and put their best face forward – literally.”

“I have met many people that are confident at what they do, but not at how they look,” continues Dr. Perkins. “And this lack of confidence can show through in an interview or in the workplace. I have seen firsthand how making someone feel more comfortable with their aesthetic appearance has greatly improved their confidence and upped their self-esteem.”

Dr. Perkins has been practicing aesthetic cosmetic surgery in the tri-counties of Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo for over 30 years. For people looking for aesthetic enhancements with less downtime, Dr. Perkins provides a number of non-invasive options for skin rejuvenation. He was part of a group of select doctors picked to conduct a study leading to the approval of Botox Cosmetic.

“With such an unpredictable stock market these days, people are finding that an investment in themselves provides unlimited, almost immediate, returns,” said Dr. Perkins. People can make their own coffee, exercise without a personal trainer and clean their own house, but removing bags under their eyes or erasing wrinkles is not so easy to accomplish without the help of a medical professional, which is exactly why Dr. Perkins, and other cosmetic and plastic surgeons, are still feeling secure in this economy.

Professionals never have a second chance to make a first impression and in tough economic times, aesthetic enhancements can boost appearance, confidence and for some, a competitive professional edge.
